Safety & responsible use
A safe place to work on your future
Katalyna is used by students as young as 13. That comes with responsibility — ours and yours. Here's how we keep this a safe, honest place to build your applications, and how to get help if something isn't right.
If you're struggling, reach out now
Applying to school is stressful, and sometimes life is heavier than that. If you're thinking about hurting yourself or you're in crisis, please talk to someone right away. It's free, confidential, and available 24/7:
- Call or text 988 — Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (US)
- Text HOME to 741741 — Crisis Text Line
- Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room if you're in immediate danger
Outside the US, your local emergency number and national crisis line can help. Please also tell a parent, teacher, or school counselor — you deserve support, and your application can wait.
Who Katalyna is for
You must be at least 13 to have an account. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian should review our Terms and Privacy Policy with you and agree to them on your behalf.
Our AI is a coach, not a ghostwriter
Katalyna helps you brainstorm, outline, and sharpen your own work — it will not write your essays for you, and it will tell you so if you ask. The words that go to a school should be yours. That's not just a rule; it's how you end up with an application that sounds like you.
What our AI will and won't do
Katalyna only helps with admissions — school lists, essays, testing, deadlines, interviews, and financial-aid basics. It won't help with anything harmful, dangerous, or dishonest, and it's built to steer those requests back to safe ground.
Your work is private
Your essays, grades, and notes are never sold, never used to train AI models, and never shared with admissions offices. You can export or permanently delete everything, any time, from your settings.
How to report a problem
If an AI response is harmful or inappropriate, or you see anything that worries you, use the Report link under any AI reply — or email us at info@katalyna.app. We read every report.
Staying safe online
Some habits that protect you everywhere, not just here:
- Never share passwords, and use a strong, unique one.
- Don't put personal details — home address, phone — in your essays or notes unless a form truly needs them.
- Be cautious with anyone who contacts you claiming to be from a school or from Katalyna; we'll never ask for your password.
- Talk to a trusted adult before acting on advice that affects money, travel, or your safety.
For parents & guardians
If your student is under 18, we ask that you review our Terms and Privacy Policy with them. Katalyna is an admissions coaching tool: it gives feedback and guidance, keeps student work private, and is designed never to write applications on a student's behalf. You can request access to or deletion of your student's data by emailing privacy@katalyna.app.
This page is guidance, not a substitute for professional help. If you are in danger or crisis, contact emergency services or a crisis line immediately.
